The first BRIDEX took place from May 31 to June 2, 2007 at the International Convention Centre, Brunei Darussalam. It was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces - who also toured the entire exhibition. The guidance of His Majesty has been instrumental in BRIDEX's inception.
BRIDEX benefits from the total support of the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam, and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, which has helped it to establish its position in the international defence & security calendar.
BRIDEX 2007 saw the participation of 108 companies, representing 16 countries, with more than 60 international delegates from 17 countries and over 11,000 visitors during the three-day show. A highlight of BRIDEX 2007 was the "Defence White Paper 2007 Update: Defending the Nation's Sovereignty", which His Majesty also consented to launch during the opening of the exhibition.
Building on that success, BRIDEX 2009 will see a further growth, expecting to attract some 250 companies from around 25 countries and receiving some 400 international delegations (led by Ministers/Deputy Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of Defence Forces, Police Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Procurement) and 25,000 visitors.
BRIDEX is growing steadily to emerge as the premier defence & security event in South East Asia.
